Strength: 80mg

Generic Name: Gliclazide

Company: Ad-din Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

MRP:৳ 6.0   (Tablet)

Is Antibiotic: No

Indications

Sugred is used to help lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes, especially when diet, exercise, and weight loss alone do not control blood sugar effectively.

Pharmacology

Sugred is a type of medication that helps release insulin from the pancreas. Sugred also helps the body use insulin better and reduces the amount of sugar produced by the liver.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: The usual starting dose is 40 to 80 mg per day. This can be increased up to 320 mg per day in divided doses if needed. Sugred should be taken before meals.

Children: Sugred is not used in children because Sugred is not recommended for juvenile diabetes.

Modified release preparation: Always take as directed by your doctor. The dose depends on your blood sugar levels and may change if your diet, exercise, or weight changes. The typical dose is one to four tablets (maximum 120 mg) taken with breakfast. Do not chew or crush the tablets, and always eat after taking the tablet.

If you take more than prescribed, contact your doctor immediately. Symptoms of an overdose may include low blood sugar, which can be treated by consuming sugar or sugary drinks.

If you miss a dose, take Sugred at the regular time. Do not take two doses at once.

If you stop taking Sugred, discuss with your doctor first, as stopping can cause high blood sugar.

Interaction

Taking Sugred with certain other medicines, such as antibiotics, blood pressure medications, and antifungal treatments, may increase the risk of low blood sugar. On the other hand, other medicines like corticosteroids or some antidepressants may reduce its effectiveness. Always inform your doctor of any other medicines you are taking.

Contraindications

Sugred is not for use in people who are allergic to Sugred or other similar medicines, or in those with type 1 diabetes, serious liver or kidney disease, or certain infections.

Side Effects

Common side effects include low blood sugar, which can cause symptoms like sweating, hunger, and dizziness. Severe low blood sugar can lead to confusion, unconsciousness, or even coma. Sugred may also cause skin rashes, liver issues, or digestive problems like nausea. If any of these occur, seek medical help immediately.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Sugred is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor before using Sugred if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Precautions & Warnings

Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. Low blood sugar is more likely at the start of treatment. If you miss meals, increase exercise, or drink alcohol, the risk of low blood sugar increases. Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels is important.

Overdose Effects

Symptoms of an overdose may include severe low blood sugar, which requires immediate treatment.

Therapeutic Class

Sugred belongs to the sulfonylurea class of drugs used to manage diabetes.

Storage Conditions

Store Sugred below 30°C, out of direct light and moisture. Keep Sugred away from children and do not use Sugred after the expiration date.
