Indications
Surecal-D is indicated for maintaining strong and healthy bones and teeth, as well as for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, postmenopausal osteoporosis, and glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.
Pharmacology
This medicine is a complete bone health formula containing several key nutrients. Calcium helps slow down bone loss from the spine, femoral neck, and the entire body. Since calcium is a nutrient, not a drug, its benefits are most noticeable in women with low to moderate calcium intake. Vitamin D3 helps the body absorb calcium, reducing age-related bone loss and fractures due to osteoporosis. Magnesium helps the body absorb both calcium and vitamin D3 and is also involved in protein synthesis. A lack of magnesium has been linked to postmenopausal osteoporosis. Trace minerals like Zinc, Copper, and Manganese are important for bone development. Zinc is part of an antioxidant enzyme that helps prevent cell damage, which can interfere with bone growth. Copper helps keep bones strong and is mainly stored in bones and muscles. Manganese, together with other trace minerals, helps prevent bone loss and osteoporosis. Boron supports calcium absorption and maintains calcium levels in the body. Vitamin C works as an antioxidant, is essential for collagen formation, and aids in iron absorption. Vitamin E also acts as an antioxidant, protecting biological membranes and stabilizing cellular functions.
Dosage & Administration
Take one tablet twice a day with meals, preferably one tablet in the morning and one in the evening, or as directed by a doctor. There is insufficient data on its use in children and adolescents.
Interaction
The risk of hypercalcemia increases when calcium is taken with thiazide diuretics, as these drugs reduce urinary calcium excretion. The effects of digitalis glycosides on the heart can be increased by calcium. Calcium salts may reduce the absorption of fluoride, certain fluoroquinolones, tetracyclines, and iron.
Contraindications
Surecal-D is contraindicated for patients who are hypersensitive to any of its ingredients. Absolute contraindications include hyperparathyroidism, kidney stones, malignant bone diseases, sarcoidosis, and severe renal failure.
Side Effects
Calcium salts may cause mild digestive issues such as constipation, bloating, nausea, stomach pain, or diarrhea. Hypercalcemia and, in rare cases, hypercalciuria have been observed with long-term use of high doses of calcium. Side effects from micronutrients are rare.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Surecal-D is recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation under medical supervision.
Precautions & Warnings
Precautions should be taken for patients with pre-existing heart or kidney conditions.
