Indications
Suvorest 10 is used to treat insomnia, which includes problems falling asleep or staying asleep.
Pharmacology
Suvorest 10 works by blocking certain brain receptors that promote wakefulness. These receptors are called orexin receptors (OX1R and OX2R). By blocking the chemicals that keep you awake, Suvorest 10 helps you sleep better.
Dosage & Administration
Recommended Dose: Take 10 mg once a night, 30 minutes before bed, with at least 7 hours before you need to wake up. If this dose doesn’t work but is well-tolerated, Suvorest 10 can be increased to 20 mg. Always use the lowest dose that works best for you. Suvorest 10 may take longer to work if taken after a meal.
Interaction
CNS-Active Drugs: When taken with alcohol, there was an increase in effects on motor skills and thinking, but alcohol doesn’t affect Suvorexant levels and Suvorexant doesn’t affect alcohol levels.
Effects of Other Drugs on Suvorexant: Strong inhibitors like ketoconazole can increase the effect of Suvorexant, while strong inducers like rifampin can decrease Suvorest 10.
Effects of Suvorexant on Other Drugs: Suvorest 10 is unlikely to interfere with the metabolism of other drugs in the body.
Contraindications
Suvorest 10 should not be used in patients with narcolepsy.
Side Effects
Common side effects include feeling sleepy during the day, trouble thinking clearly, acting strangely or confused, and sleep-walking.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Suvorest 10 is classified as Pregnancy Category C. There is not enough research on its safety during pregnancy. Suvorest 10 should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks to the baby.
Precautions & Warnings
Suvorest 10 may cause drowsiness during the day, which can affect alertness and coordination, especially when driving. Use caution, particularly with the 20 mg dose.
If insomnia lasts longer than 7-10 days, your doctor may need to check for other health problems.
