Indications
Suzyme 325 is used to treat conditions where the pancreas does not work properly, such as chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, after pancreatic surgery, total stomach removal, steatorrhea, somatostatinoma, celiac disease, and other problems related to pancreatic insufficiency.
Pharmacology
Suzyme 325 is made from an extract of the pancreas and contains three main enzymes: Amylase, Protease, and Lipase. These enzymes work in the small intestine to break down food. Amylase breaks down starch into sugars, Protease helps break down proteins into amino acids, and Lipase breaks down fats into fatty acids and monoglycerides. Suzyme 325 is very effective in breaking down starch and proteins quickly.
Dosage & Administration
Adult & Elderly: Take 2-3 tablets with a little water, right after or during meals, or as advised by the doctor.
Interaction
Suzyme 325 should not be taken with antacids because they can break the coating of the tablets and release the content in the stomach.
Contraindications
Suzyme 325 is not recommended for patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
The common side effects include nausea, vomiting, and stomach discomfort. In infants, there may be soreness in the mouth or around the anus. Allergic reactions such as sneezing, watery eyes, or skin rashes have also been reported.
Pregnancy & Lactation
If you are pregnant, you should only take this medicine if Suzyme 325 is absolutely necessary. Suzyme 325 is not known if this drug passes into breast milk, so caution is advised when giving Suzyme 325 to a nursing mother.
Precautions & Warnings
Suzyme 325 should be used with caution in patients who are allergic to animal proteins.
Overdose Effects
Taking too many tablets can cause diarrhea. Very high doses can lead to increased levels of uric acid in the blood and urine, but there is no risk of serious toxicity.
