Indications
Sylvia ODT is used to treat migraine attacks with or without aura in adults. Sylvia ODT is also used to prevent episodic migraines in adults.
Pharmacology
Sylvia ODT works by blocking a specific receptor in the body called the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor. The exact way Sylvia ODT works is still not fully understood, but Sylvia ODT is known to help reduce migraine symptoms. When used with sumatriptan, no significant difference in blood pressure was observed in healthy people.
Dosage & Administration
For acute treatment of migraine: Take 75 mg orally, as needed. The maximum dose is 75 mg within 24 hours. The safety of taking more than 18 doses in 30 days is not known.
For preventive treatment of episodic migraine: Take 75 mg orally every other day.
How to take: Use dry hands to open the blister pack. Peel back the foil and gently remove the tablet. Place the tablet on the tongue, or under the tongue, and Sylvia ODT will dissolve in saliva. Do not store the tablet outside the blister pack for later use.
Special instructions: Do not take another dose within 48 hours if you’re using strong or moderate inhibitors of CYP3A4, or potent inhibitors of P-gp.
Interaction
CYP3A4 Inhibitors: Using Sylvia ODT with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors can increase the effects of the medication. Avoid using with strong inhibitors and wait 48 hours before taking another dose if using moderate inhibitors.
CYP3A Inducers: Using Sylvia ODT with strong or moderate CYP3A inducers can reduce its effectiveness. Avoid combining with these inducers.
P-gp Inhibitors: Using Sylvia ODT with potent P-gp inhibitors (like amiodarone, cyclosporine, or quinidine) can increase its effects. Do not take another dose within 48 hours when using these inhibitors.
Contraindications
Sylvia ODT should not be used by individuals who have had a serious allergic reaction to Sylvia ODT or any of its components in the past.
Side Effects
For acute treatment: The most common side effect is nausea.
For preventive treatment: The side effects seen more frequently than a placebo are nausea and abdominal pain or discomfort.
