Indications
Telma 40 is used for treating high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. Telma 40 can also help prevent heart problems in adults who have had heart issues like coronary heart disease, stroke, or problems with blood flow in the legs. Additionally, Telma 40 is used for adults with type 2 diabetes who have damage to vital organs.
Pharmacology
Telma 40 is an angiotensin-II receptor blocker. Angiotensin-II is a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten, increasing blood pressure. Telma 40 also stimulates the release of a hormone that affects fluid balance in the body. Telma 40 works by blocking the effects of angiotensin-II, helping blood vessels relax and lowering blood pressure. Telma 40 mainly binds to one type of receptor, AT1, which makes Telma 40 more effective. Telma 40 does not affect other hormones or processes related to heart and blood vessel control.
Dosage & Administration
Adult: The usual starting dose is 40 mg once a day. The dose can range from 20 to 80 mg depending on how the patient responds. Most of the effects are seen within 2 weeks, with the best results after 4 weeks. If additional blood pressure lowering is needed, a combination therapy may be considered. No dose adjustments are needed for older adults or those with kidney problems, but those on dialysis should have their blood pressure monitored closely. Telma 40 can be taken with or without food.
Pediatric use: Safety and effectiveness in children have not been proven.
Geriatric use: No major differences in effectiveness or safety were seen in older patients compared to younger ones.
Hepatic impairment: Be cautious in patients with liver problems and adjust the dosage gradually.
Interaction
Taking this medicine with NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) can increase the risk of kidney problems and reduce its blood pressure-lowering effect. Telma 40 should not be used with aliskiren in diabetic patients.
Contraindications
Telma 40 should not be used by anyone who is allergic to Telma 40 or any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
For people with high blood pressure, the most common side effects include sinus pain, back pain, and diarrhea. For people taking Telma 40 for heart disease prevention, side effects may include leg pain and skin sores.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Telma 40 is not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, as Telma 40 may harm the baby. If you are breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Precautions & Warnings
Avoid using Telma 40 during pregnancy to protect the baby. Telma 40 can cause low blood pressure, so Telma 40 should be used with caution. People with liver or kidney problems need to be monitored closely. Telma 40 should not be used together with ACE inhibitors.
Overdose Effects
If too much is taken, Telma 40 can cause low blood pressure, dizziness, and fast heart rate. Telma 40 may also lead to slow heart rate, kidney problems, or serious complications like shock.
