Indications
Tenoloc 50 is used to manage high blood pressure, either alone or with other medicines, like diuretics. Tenoloc 50 also helps in long-term treatment of chest pain (angina) and is given to patients with heart attacks to lower the risk of heart-related death.
Pharmacology
Tenoloc 50 is a beta-blocker that mainly targets the heart, reducing its workload and helping Tenoloc 50 pump more efficiently. Unlike some other beta-blockers, Tenoloc 50 does not affect the lungs as much. Tenoloc 50 is also known to be less likely to enter body cells due to its hydrophilic nature.
Dosage & Administration
High Blood Pressure: The usual starting dose is 50 mg once daily. If needed, the dose may be increased to 100 mg once daily. Higher doses usually do not provide additional benefits.
Chest Pain (Angina): The starting dose is 50 mg once daily. If there is no improvement within a week, the dose may be raised to 100 mg once daily. Some patients may need up to 200 mg daily.
Heart Attack: Treatment should start in the hospital with an intravenous injection of 5 mg, followed by another 5 mg after 10 minutes. If well tolerated, 50 mg should be taken orally 10 minutes later, followed by another 50 mg after 12 hours. Then, a daily dose of 100 mg (either once or split into two doses) should be continued for 6-9 days or until discharge.
Interaction
Some medicines, like reserpine, may increase the effect of this drug, causing very low blood pressure and slow heart rate. Calcium channel blockers may also enhance its effects. Certain antiarrhythmic drugs like disopyramide and amiodarone may cause severe heart issues when taken together with this medicine.
Contraindications
Tenoloc 50 should not be used in patients with severe heart failure, slow heart rate, or low blood pressure. Tenoloc 50 is also not suitable for people with certain breathing problems, like severe asthma or chronic lung diseases.
Side Effects
Common side effects include tiredness, dizziness, slow heart rate, and cold hands or feet. In some cases, Tenoloc 50 may cause trouble breathing, low blood pressure, or depression.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Tenoloc 50 should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed, as Tenoloc 50 may affect the baby’s growth. Breastfeeding mothers should consult a doctor before using Tenoloc 50, as Tenoloc 50 can pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings
Patients with diabetes should be cautious, as Tenoloc 50 may mask low blood sugar symptoms. Those with kidney problems may need dose adjustments. Stopping the medicine suddenly can worsen heart conditions, so Tenoloc 50 should be reduced gradually under medical supervision.
Overdose Effects
Taking too much of this medicine can cause severe slow heart rate, very low blood pressure, breathing difficulty, confusion, or even fainting. Immediate medical attention is required in case of overdose.
