Indications
Urilit 1080 is used to manage Renal Tubular Acidosis (RTA) with calcium stones, hypocitraturic calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis, and uric acid lithiasis with or without calcium stones.
Pharmacology
When taken orally, Urilit 1080 produces an alkaline effect in the body, which increases urinary pH and citrate levels. This helps reduce the formation of kidney stones, especially calcium oxalate, calcium phosphate, and uric acid. Urilit 1080 works by binding calcium and reducing its activity, preventing stone formation. The drug also raises urinary potassium levels and may reduce urinary calcium in some patients.
Dosage & Administration
For adults: The treatment should be taken with limited salt intake and high fluid intake (urine volume should be at least 2 liters a day). The goal is to restore normal urinary citrate levels (above 320 mg/day) and increase urinary pH to 6.0 or 7.0.
For severe hypocitraturia: Start with 60 mEq/day (30 mEq twice a day or 20 mEq three times a day) and adjust as necessary based on urine citrate and pH measurements.
For mild to moderate hypocitraturia: Start with 30 mEq/day (15 mEq twice a day or 10 mEq three times a day).
Interaction
There are no known significant interactions.
Contraindications
Urilit 1080 is contraindicated in patients with high potassium levels, conditions that increase potassium levels, gastrointestinal problems that delay tablet passage, peptic ulcer disease, active urinary tract infections, or severe kidney disease.
Side Effects
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. Urilit 1080 can also cause high potassium levels in the blood. A rare but serious allergic reaction may occur.
