Indications

Mydripine is used as an eye drop to dilate the pupils during eye exams or to treat certain eye conditions like inflammation. Mydripine can also help in slowing down the progression of nearsightedness (myopia) in children between 4 and 14 years old, especially when the myopia gets worse.

Pharmacology

Atropine Sulfate works by slowing down the progression of myopia. Mydripine affects certain receptors in the eye, which are involved in eye growth and vision changes. Mydripine may help strengthen parts of the eye to reduce the risk of worsening myopia by making changes to certain cell activities in the eye.

Dosage & Administration

1% Eye drops: For uveitis, apply one drop three times a day. For refraction, apply one drop twice a day for one or two days before the eye exam, and one hour before the exam. Apply pressure to the corner of the eye for one minute after using.

0.01% Eye drops: For children, apply one drop in each eye before bed. To get the best results, the medication should be used for at least two years. Apply gentle pressure to the tear duct for one minute after use to avoid side effects.

Interaction

Mydripine should not be used with certain medications like anticholinergics, antiglaucoma agents, potassium supplements, and some CNS drugs due to possible serious interactions.

Contraindications

Mydripine is not recommended for people with angle closure glaucoma or those suspected to have Mydripine. If used in glaucoma patients, the depth of the anterior chamber should be measured before starting the treatment.

Side Effects

Possible side effects include blurry vision, irritation in the eyes, redness, swelling, discharge, skin rash, light sensitivity, etc.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Mydripine may be absorbed into the body after being applied to the eyes, but there are no significant effects reported on the fetus. Small amounts may also pass into breast milk. Mydripine can cause side effects in babies, like a fast heartbeat, fever, or dry skin, if the mother uses this while breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

Mydripine should not be used in children who have had severe reactions to Mydripine before. Children with conditions like Down’s syndrome or brain damage may react more strongly to Mydripine, so caution is required. Regular eye check-ups should be done during long-term use. Mydripine should not be used in children younger than 4 years old.

Overdose Effects

If overdosed, rinse the eyes with water and seek immediate medical help. Symptoms may include headache, fast heartbeat, dry mouth, skin dryness, unusual tiredness, and flushing.

Therapeutic Class

Mydripine is classified as a mydriatic and cycloplegic agent.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of children’s reach. Do not touch the tip of the dropper to avoid contamination. Do not use the eye drops after one month of opening the bottle.
