Indications
X-Pectoran is used to treat breathing problems that come with productive cough. This includes conditions like tracheobronchitis, bronchitis with emphysema, bronchiectasis, bronchitis with bronchospasm, chronic lung conditions, and pneumoconiosis.
Pharmacology
X-Pectoran is a mucolytic agent that helps break down thick mucus in the airways. This makes X-Pectoran easier to clear out the mucus when coughing. X-Pectoran is quickly absorbed from the digestive system and is spread throughout the body.
Dosage & Administration
Adult & Children over 12 years: 10 ml (2 teaspoons) three times a day.
Children 6-12 years: 5 ml (1 teaspoon) three times a day.
Children 2-6 years: 2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoon) three times a day.
X-Pectoran is not recommended for children under 2 years old without a doctor’s advice.
Interaction
There are no known serious interactions with other medications.
Contraindications
X-Pectoran is not recommended for people who are allergic to Bromhexine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
Some people may experience mild stomach upset. A temporary rise in liver enzyme levels has been noted. Other side effects may include headache, dizziness, and allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Special care should be taken during pregnancy. The benefits of using X-Pectoran should be weighed against the potential risks to the child.
X-Pectoran is expected to pass into breast milk, so X-Pectoran is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
X-Pectoran should be used carefully in patients with a history of stomach ulcers. Caution is also advised in people with asthma. People with serious liver or kidney problems may experience slower clearance of the drug.
