Indications

Xablin 50 is used for the treatment of neuropathic pain caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, and pain related to spinal cord injury. Xablin 50 is also used as additional therapy for partial-onset seizures in patients 1 month or older, and for fibromyalgia.

Pharmacology

Xablin 50 is derived from gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Xablin 50 does not bind to GABA receptors but attaches to a specific site on calcium channels in the brain. This action is believed to help reduce pain and seizures, though the exact mechanism is not fully known.

For postherpetic neuralgia: Start with 75 mg twice a day or 50 mg three times a day, which can be increased to 300 mg per day in a week.

For fibromyalgia: The dose begins at 75 mg twice a day and may increase to 300-450 mg per day, based on the patient’s response.

For spinal cord injury pain: Start with 75 mg twice a day, and the dose may be increased to 150-300 mg per day.

Conversion to controlled release form: When switching from regular Pregabalin to the controlled release form, the morning dose remains the same, and the controlled release capsule should be taken in the evening after a meal.
