Indications
Xeroder IV is used to treat fungal infections in the cornea (the outer layer of the eye), such as fungal corneal ulcers and keratitis.
Pharmacology
Xeroder IV is a topical eye drop containing Fluconazole, a type of antifungal medication. Fluconazole works by stopping the growth of fungi. Xeroder IV affects the fungal cells by blocking an enzyme needed for making the cell membrane, which causes the membrane to become more permeable. This leads to leakage of essential elements and prevents the fungus from making DNA.
Dosage & Administration
1 drop should be applied to the affected eye(s) five times a day.
Interaction
Xeroder IV may affect how other medications are processed by the liver.
Contraindications
Xeroder IV is contraindicated for people who are allergic to azoles (a group of antifungal drugs).
Side Effects
This medication is usually well tolerated. However, some patients may experience an increase in eosinophils (a type of white blood cell) in their blood.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There are no well-controlled studies of this drug in pregnant women. Xeroder IV should only be used during pregnancy if the benefit outweighs the potential risk to the baby. Xeroder IV is not recommended for nursing mothers since the drug can pass into breast milk at levels similar to the blood.
Precautions & Warnings
Xeroder IV may cause overgrowth of fungi that are not sensitive to Xeroder IV, including types of Candida other than Candida albicans.

Storage Conditions
Keep out of the reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place, away from heat and direct light. Do not use the medicine more than four weeks after opening the bottle.
