Pharmacology
Xirocip is a synthetic antibiotic that works against a wide range of bacteria. Xirocip is effective against many types of bacteria, including those in the Enterobacteriaceae family and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Xirocip also works on some gram-positive bacteria, but some streptococci are resistant. Xirocip works by blocking the enzyme DNA gyrase, which bacteria need to create DNA. After taking Xirocip by mouth, Xirocip is quickly absorbed and spreads throughout the body. Xirocip has a half-life of about 3.5 hours, and about 30% to 50% of the dose is excreted in the urine as unchanged drug and active metabolites.
