Indications

Xmec is used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, dizziness, motion sickness, radiation sickness, and vertigo caused by problems in the vestibular system, such as Meniere’s disease, labyrinthitis, and other related disorders.

Pharmacology

Xmec contains Meclizine, an antihistamine that helps reduce nausea and dizziness. Meclizine works by decreasing the sensitivity of the inner ear and may act on the brain’s vomiting center. Pyridoxine, also known as vitamin B6, is added to improve the anti-nausea effect and as a dietary supplement.

Dosage & Administration

Adults and Children 12 years and older:

Nausea and vomiting: 25-50 mg daily or as directed by a doctor.

Motion sickness: Take 25-50 mg 1 hour before traveling. You can repeat the dose every 24 hours during the trip.

Radiation sickness: 50 mg taken 2-12 hours before radiation treatment.

Vertigo: 25-100 mg daily, split into multiple doses.

Preventing nausea and vomiting with emergency contraceptive pills (ECP): 25-50 mg 1 hour before the first dose of ECP; repeat if necessary in 24 hours.

The safety of using this medicine in children under 12 years old has not been proven.

Interaction

Taking this medicine with alcohol or other drugs that cause drowsiness (such as benzodiazepines, barbiturates, antidepressants, opiates, muscle relaxants, and antihistamines) can make these effects stronger. Xmec can also increase the absorption of digoxin by slowing down stomach movements.

Contraindications

Xmec is not suitable for people who are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine.

Side Effects

Common side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, and in rare cases, blurred vision.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This medicine is classified as Pregnancy Category B, which means Xmec has not shown harm to unborn babies in large human studies. Xmec is often considered safe to treat nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. However, the safety of using Xmec while breastfeeding has not been confirmed.

Precautions & Warnings

Xmec may affect your ability to do tasks that require mental focus or physical coordination, such as driving or using machinery. Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine. Xmec should also be used carefully in people with asthma, glaucoma, or an enlarged prostate.

Overdose Effects

Overdose symptoms may include extreme excitement, seizures, drowsiness, and hallucinations. Treatment involves supportive care, and dialysis may be considered.
