Indications
Xylomet 0.1% is used to relieve nasal congestion caused by colds, rhinitis, sinusitis, and headaches. Xylomet 0.1% is also used to treat ear blockage and fluid buildup in the ear due to nasal congestion.
Pharmacology
Nasal congestion can occur due to various conditions, such as rhinosinusitis or rhinitis, causing swelling of blood vessels in the nasal passages. Xylometazoline works by shrinking these blood vessels, which helps clear the nasal passages and improves breathing. Xylomet 0.1% targets specific receptors in the nasal tissue to help reduce congestion. Compared to another nasal decongestant, oxymetazoline, Xylometazoline acts slightly faster, though both provide similar results. Xylomet 0.1% can also help relieve earaches and sore throats caused by mouth breathing when the nose is blocked.
