Indications

Xynocard SR is used to treat high blood pressure during surgery, manage heart failure during a heart attack, treat chest pain in people who didn’t respond to other treatments, and help control blood pressure during surgery.

Pharmacology

Xynocard SR works by relaxing blood vessels and widening both veins and arteries. This reduces the pressure in the heart and decreases blood flow resistance. Xynocard SR also dilates coronary arteries, helping blood flow to the heart.

Dosage & Administration

Xynocard SR is not given as a direct injection. The drug must be diluted in either a dextrose (5%) or sodium chloride (0.9%) solution before being infused. The initial dilution is made by transferring the contents of one ampoule into a 500 ml bottle of one of these solutions. The concentration should not exceed 400 mcg/ml.

Interaction

Its effects may be stronger when used with other blood pressure-lowering drugs. Xynocard SR should not be mixed with blood or other medications. Xynocard SR can also interfere with the effects of heparin, an anticoagulant, so careful monitoring is needed.

Contraindications

Xynocard SR should not be used in people allergic to Xynocard SR or in patients with certain heart conditions, such as pericardial tamponade, restrictive cardiomyopathy, or constrictive pericarditis.

Side Effects

The most common side effect is headache, which can be severe, especially with higher doses. Other possible side effects include lightheadedness, low blood pressure, and in rare cases, methemoglobinemia (a blood condition). Xynocard SR may also cause fainting and chest pain.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Xynocard SR is in pregnancy category C. Xynocard SR is not known if Xynocard SR passes into breast milk, so Xynocard SR should only be used by nursing mothers if absolutely necessary.

Precautions & Warnings

Xynocard SR should be used carefully in patients with low blood volume or low blood pressure. If blood pressure drops too much, Xynocard SR can lead to slow heart rate, chest pain, and other complications. Long-term use can cause tolerance, reducing its effect, and sudden withdrawal can cause severe chest pain or even death.

Overdose Effects

An overdose can lead to serious effects like headache, confusion, dizziness, nausea, fainting, heart problems, difficulty breathing, and in extreme cases, seizures or death.

Therapeutic Class

Xynocard SR belongs to the group of drugs called nitrates, used to widen coronary arteries.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
