Indications
Yulipris 5 is used for emergency contraception within 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.
Pharmacology
Yulipris 5 is a synthetic medication that works by binding to the progesterone receptor in the body. Its main action is to stop or delay ovulation. Studies show that even when taken just before ovulation, Yulipris 5 can delay the release of the egg in some women.
Dosage & Administration
Adult & Elderly: Take one 30 mg tablet as soon as possible, but no later than 120 hours after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. Yulipris 5 can be taken with or without food. If vomiting happens within 3 hours, take another tablet. Yulipris 5 can be taken at any time during the menstrual cycle.
Interaction
Yulipris 5 interacts with drugs such as Barbiturates, Carbamazepine, Phenobarbital, Rifampicin, Itraconazole, Ketoconazole, etc.
Contraindications
Yulipris 5 is not recommended for use in case of hypersensitivity to its components and during pregnancy.
Side Effects
Common side effects include headache, nausea, abdominal pain, menstrual cramps, fatigue, dizziness, and breast tenderness.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Yulipris 5 should not be used during pregnancy. Yulipris 5 is also found in breast milk, so breastfeeding is not recommended for one week after taking Yulipris 5. There is limited information on its effects on the fetus or newborn.
Precautions & Warnings
Existing Pregnancy: Yulipris 5 is not meant for ending an existing pregnancy.
Ectopic Pregnancy: A history of ectopic pregnancy does not stop you from using this emergency contraception.
Repeated Use: Yulipris 5 is for occasional use only and should not replace regular contraception methods. Using Yulipris 5 more than once in the same menstrual cycle is not recommended as its safety and effectiveness have not been tested.
