Indications

Zalain Vaginal Suppository is used to treat skin fungal infections, such as athlete’s foot, and other similar infections in people aged 12 and older. Zalain Vaginal Suppository targets infections caused by specific fungi like Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Epidermophyton floccosum.

Pharmacology

Zalain Vaginal Suppository is an antifungal medication that works by blocking an enzyme involved in the production of ergosterol, an important part of fungal cell membranes. Without ergosterol, the fungal cell gets damaged and leaks important substances, leading to the death of the fungus.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: Apply Sertaconazole cream twice a day for 4 weeks to the affected area, covering both the skin between the toes and the surrounding healthy skin.

Pediatric: The safety and effectiveness in children under 12 years old have not been established.

Geriatric: There is limited data on how Zalain Vaginal Suppository works in patients over 65 years old, so caution should be used.

Zalain Vaginal Suppository should only be applied on the skin. Do not use in the eyes, mouth, or vagina.

Interaction

Interactions with other drugs have not been fully studied for this medication.

Contraindications

Zalain Vaginal Suppository is not recommended for patients who are allergic to sertaconazole nitrate or any other ingredients in the cream or other imidazole antifungals.

Side Effects

The most common side effects are skin irritation, dry skin, burning sensations, and tenderness at the application site.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There are no well-controlled studies for use during pregnancy. Zalain Vaginal Suppository should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks to the unborn baby.
