Indications

Zenaf is used to treat infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to Zenaf. These include:

  • Upper respiratory infections like sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis, and ear infections.
  • Lower respiratory infections like bronchitis and pneumonia.
  • Urinary tract infections such as cystitis and pyelonephritis.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections like abscesses and cellulitis.

The bacteria that are sensitive to Zenaf include various types of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, E. coli, and others. Even some bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotics may still be treated by Zenaf.

Pharmacology

Zenaf is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that works against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Zenaf attacks the bacterial cell wall, causing the bacteria to break apart and die. Zenaf is effective even against bacteria that produce certain enzymes that usually make other antibiotics ineffective.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: For urinary tract infections, take 500mg four times a day or 1g twice a day. For respiratory and skin infections, take 250mg to 500mg four times a day or 500mg to 1g twice a day, depending on the infection’s severity.

Children: The usual dose is 25-50mg/kg per day, divided into two or four doses.

Maximum dose: 4g per day.

Elderly: Standard adult doses are usually appropriate, but patients with kidney or liver issues should be monitored.

Injectable form: Adults usually take 2-4g per day in divided doses. For serious infections, the dose can go up to 8g per day. For children, the dose is 50-100mg/kg per day in divided doses.
