Indications
Zenistin is used to treat skin infections caused by fungi and/or bacteria, such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, and infected nappy rash.
Pharmacology
Nystatin is an antifungal antibiotic that works mainly against Candida albicans. Chlorhexidine fights a wide range of bacteria. Nystatin is not absorbed through the skin or mucous membranes when applied topically, and Zenistin is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
Dosage & Administration
Child: Apply 2-3 times a day and continue for 7 days after the lesions have healed.
Adult: Apply 2-3 times a day and continue for 7 days after the lesions have healed, or as directed by the physician.
Interaction
There are no known drug interactions.
Contraindications
Zenistin is contraindicated in people with a known allergy to the active ingredients, especially those who have had allergic reactions to chlorhexidine.
Side Effects
Common side effects include allergic skin reactions such as dermatitis, itching, redness, eczema, rash, and skin irritation. Rare side effects can include severe allergic reactions that may cause a drop in blood pressure and even unconsciousness.
Pregnancy & Lactation
This cream should be used cautiously during the early months of pregnancy.
Precautions & Warnings
For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes. If you experience sensitivity or if a new infection appears, stop using the cream and seek alternative treatment. This cream contains chlorhexidine, which can cause allergic reactions, including anaphylactic shock. Zenistin should not be used by anyone with a history of allergy to chlorhexidine or similar compounds.
Overdose Effects
The product is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. In case of accidental ingestion, routine actions like gastric lavage should be performed as soon as possible.
