Generic Name: Ozenoxacin topical
Company: Navana Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
MRP:৳ 250.0 (10gm tube)
Is Antibiotic: No
Indications
Zenocin is used for treating impetigo caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes in both adults and children aged 2 months and older.
Pharmacology
Zenocin is a quinolone antimicrobial that works by stopping the bacteria from replicating their DNA. Zenocin targets specific enzymes called DNA gyrase A and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for bacterial DNA replication. Zenocin has been proven to kill Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria.
Absorption: Four studies were done to observe how much of Zenocin is absorbed into the body. No absorption was seen in most subjects, and only a small amount was detected in two patients.
Distribution: Zenocin binds moderately to plasma proteins (about 80-85%) but does not rely on concentration levels. Since Zenocin is not absorbed systemically, no studies on tissue distribution have been conducted.
Metabolism: Zenocin does not break down when in contact with human skin but undergoes minimal breakdown in liver cells.
Excretion: No studies were conducted on excretion as there is little absorption into the system.
Dosage & Administration
Adults and Children Over 12: Apply a thin layer of Zenocin to the affected area twice a day for 5 days. The treated area can be up to 100 cm².
Children Under 12: The affected area should not exceed 100 cm² or 2% of the total body surface area.
Wash your hands after applying. This cream is for external use only—do not apply Zenocin to your mouth, eyes, nose, or vagina. The treated area can be covered with a sterile bandage if needed.
Interaction
There are no known interactions.
Contraindications
There are no known contraindications.
Side Effects
Most side effects are mild. Some people might experience skin issues such as rosacea or seborrheic dermatitis. These were observed in one adult patient during clinical trials.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: There are no available data for the use of Zenocin during pregnancy. Since Zenocin is absorbed in very small amounts, Zenocin is unlikely to affect the unborn baby. Animal studies with oral forms of the drug showed no harmful effects at very high doses.
Lactation: There is no data on whether Zenocin passes into breast milk. However, because of minimal absorption, Zenocin is not expected to affect a breastfed infant. Consider the benefits of breastfeeding along with the mother’s need for this medicine.
Precautions & Warnings
Using Zenocin for long periods can lead to the growth of bacteria or fungi that are not affected by the drug. If this happens, stop using Zenocin and seek appropriate treatment.
Overdose Effects
If you accidentally overdose, either by applying too much or ingesting Zenocin, treat the symptoms as they appear. There is no known antidote.
Therapeutic Class
Zenocin is a topical antibiotic.
