Zentixol A is used to manage the symptoms of schizophrenia. Zentixol A helps in the initial treatment of acute psychotic episodes or when psychosis related to schizophrenia worsens.
Pharmacology
Zentixol A is a thioxanthene derivative that strongly binds to dopamine D1 and D2 receptors. Zentixol A also binds to α1-adrenergic and 5-HT2 receptors. Zentixol A has weaker activity against histamine H1 and very little effect on muscarinic cholinergic and α2-adrenergic receptors.
Dosage & Administration
Zuclopenthixol Tablets: Start with a dose of 10-50 mg per day, divided into 2 or 3 doses. Zentixol A can be increased by 10-20 mg every 2-3 days based on the patient’s response. The usual dose is 20-60 mg per day, but Zentixol A may vary. Dosages above 100 mg per day are not recommended. For maintenance, the dose is generally reduced to the lowest level that controls symptoms, usually 20-40 mg per day.
Zuclopenthixol Acuphase: The typical dose is 50-150 mg (1-3 ml), injected intramuscularly. The dose can be repeated every 2-3 days if needed. Some patients may need an extra injection 1 or 2 days after the first.
Zuclopenthixol Depot: The usual dose for maintenance therapy is 150-300 mg intramuscularly every 2-4 weeks. Some patients may need a higher or lower dose, or a different schedule.
