Indications

Zif-A is used to prevent iron deficiency, especially when a poor diet requires extra zinc and iron during pregnancy and anemia.

Pharmacology

Zif-A is a combination of three nutritional supplements: Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid, and Zinc. Ferrous Ascorbate is a mix of iron and vitamin C. Iron helps replenish iron in the body and treat iron deficiency anemia. Vitamin C is added to help the body absorb iron better. Folic Acid is a type of vitamin B, which is important for making red blood cells that carry oxygen throughout the body. Zif-A is also needed in pregnancy to support the development of the baby’s brain and spine. Zinc is a nutrient that supports overall health.

Dosage & Administration

Adult & Elderly: Take one tablet per day, either before or after meals, or as directed by a doctor. In more severe cases, two tablets per day may be needed as prescribed by the doctor.

Pediatric patients: Safety and effectiveness in children have not been proven.

Interaction

Iron can interfere with the absorption of tetracycline. Do not take this product within two hours of tetracycline antibiotics. Taking Zif-A with food can help reduce stomach discomfort. The absorption of iron may also be reduced when taken with penicillamine or antacids. Patients with kidney issues may face a risk of zinc buildup.

Contraindications

Zif-A is not suitable for people with haemolytic anemia or those who are allergic to any of its ingredients, or have high iron levels in their body.

Side Effects

Common side effects are mild and temporary. These may include stomach pain, nausea, constipation, vomiting, diarrhea, and heartburn. Some people may experience allergic reactions to folic acid.

Pregnancy & Lactation

If pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using this product. Zif-A should be avoided during the first trimester unless there is clear evidence of iron deficiency. Iron supplements may be necessary during later pregnancy, especially when zinc is also required.

Precautions & Warnings

Be cautious if you have conditions that could lead to too much iron in your body, such as haemochromatosis, haemolytic anemia, or red blood cell problems. If you don’t respond to treatment, Zif-A may be due to other causes of anemia, and further investigation is needed.

Overdose Effects

Overdose symptoms can vary, but may include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, black stools, vomiting blood, low blood pressure, fast heart rate, breathing problems, confusion, weakness, seizures, shock, or even coma.

Therapeutic Class

Iron, Vitamin & Mineral Combined Preparation.
