Indications

Zifday is used to treat and prevent deficiencies of iron, folic acid, and zinc, especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Pharmacology

This timed-release capsule combines Carbonyl Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate. Carbonyl Iron contains at least 98% iron, making Zifday a safer and more effective choice for iron supplementation due to its high bioavailability and low toxicity.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: One capsule daily before food or as directed by the doctor.

Interaction

Carbonyl Iron can decrease the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, quinolone antibiotics, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, and penicillamine. Folic Acid may interact with antiepileptic drugs, reducing plasma levels of phenobarbital, phenytoin, and primidone.

Contraindications

Zifday is contraindicated for patients who are hypersensitive to any of its components or those with iron overload.

Side Effects

Side effects may include gastrointestinal issues like nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, discomfort, constipation, and diarrhea. Dark stools may occur. Carbonyl Iron pellets in the capsules help reduce gastrointestinal irritation. Allergic reactions are rare.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Zifday is recommended to avoid any medication during the first trimester of pregnancy unless there is clear evidence of iron deficiency. Iron supplementation during pregnancy is justified when zinc and folic acid are needed due to an inadequate diet.

Precautions & Warnings

Extra care should be taken with patients who may have iron overload, such as those with haemochromatosis, hemolytic anemia, or red blood cell aplasia. If there is no response to the treatment, further investigation is needed to check for other causes of anemia. In patients with kidney problems, there may be a risk of zinc buildup.

Overdose Effects

Overdose symptoms of Carbonyl Iron may include low energy, nausea, abdominal pain, dark stools, weak or rapid pulse, fever, coma, and seizures.

Therapeutic Class
