Indications
Zinal is used to treat eye itching caused by allergic conjunctivitis.
Pharmacology
Zinal is an antihistamine that works by blocking histamine-1 (H1) receptors. Zinal has little to no effect on other receptors like anticholinergic or antiserotonergic receptors. Studies have shown that Zinal is effective in reducing allergy symptoms without significant side effects.
When applied to the eyes, one drop of the solution leads to a very low amount of cetirizine being absorbed into the bloodstream. The effects last for several hours, with a half-life of around 8 hours.
Dosage & Administration
Adults and children (2 years and older): One drop should be placed in the affected eye(s) twice a day, about 8 hours apart.

Side Effects
The most common side effects are eye redness, pain at the application site, and reduced vision.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: There are no sufficient studies to confirm its safety during pregnancy. Zinal should only be used if the benefits outweigh the potential risks to the baby.
Lactation: Zinal is not known if the drug passes into breast milk, but Zinal is recommended to consult with a healthcare provider before using Zinal while breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Do not let the dropper touch your eyelids or surrounding areas to avoid contamination. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. If you have red eyes, avoid wearing contact lenses and remove them before using the medication. You can put them back in after 10 minutes.
