Zinnat
Form: Tablet
Strength: 125mg
Generic Name: Cefuroxime
Company: GlaxoSmithKline
MRP:৳ 15.0 (Tablet)
Is Antibiotic: Yes
Indications
Zinnat is used to treat infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to Zinnat. This includes conditions like:
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis (beta-lactamase producing strains), or Streptococcus pyogenes.
Pharmacology
Zinnat contains Cefuroxime, a second-generation antibiotic that kills bacteria by preventing them from making their cell walls. Zinnat works against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including those that produce beta-lactamase.
Zinnat also contains Clavulanic acid, which blocks beta-lactamase enzymes. This helps protect Cefuroxime from being broken down, making Zinnat more effective in treating infections caused by bacteria resistant to some antibiotics.

Pregnancy & Lactation
Zinnat should be avoided during the first trimester if possible. However, Zinnat can be safely used during later stages of pregnancy to treat infections. Zinnat can pass into breast milk in small amounts, so caution is needed when nursing.
