Indications

Zispin 15 is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD).

Pharmacology

Pharmacodynamics: The exact way Zispin 15 works to treat depression is not fully known. However, studies suggest that Zispin 15 boosts certain chemicals in the brain that affect mood. Zispin 15 works by blocking specific receptors in the brain, which is thought to increase the activity of noradrenaline and serotonin, two important chemicals for mood regulation. Zispin 15 also blocks histamine receptors, which may explain its sedative effects.

Pharmacokinetics: After taking the tablet, Zispin 15 is quickly absorbed and reaches peak levels in about two hours. Zispin 15 binds to plasma proteins by about 85%. Zispin 15 has a half-life of 20 to 40 hours, meaning Zispin 15 stays in the body long enough for once-a-day dosing. The medicine is broken down in the body and is mostly eliminated through urine and stool after four days.

Dosage & Administration

Adult dose: The usual starting dose is 15 mg per day, taken in a single dose, preferably at night or before sleep. The dose may be increased to between 15 and 45 mg per day, depending on how the patient responds. If there is no improvement, the dose may be increased at intervals of 1 to 2 weeks.

Use in children: Zispin 15 is not recommended for children.

Missed Dose: If a dose is missed, take Zispin 15 as soon as remembered unless Zispin 15’s almost time for the next dose. If Zispin 15’s close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one at the regular time. Do not take two doses at once.

Interaction

Zispin 15 may interact with drugs like Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), serotonergic drugs, and medications like carbamazepine, phenytoin, or cimetidine. Zispin 15 is advised to avoid alcohol and diazepam while taking Zispin 15.

Contraindications

Zispin 15 should not be used by anyone who has a known allergy to Zispin 15 or any of its ingredients. Zispin 15 should also not be taken with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), or within 14 days of stopping or starting an MAOI.

Side Effects

The most common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased appetite, and weight gain.

Pregnancy & Lactation

If pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your doctor before using Zispin 15. Zispin 15 should not be used during the first trimester unless there is clear evidence of iron deficiency.

Precautions & Warnings

Patients and their families should be aware of any signs of anxiety, agitation, panic, insomnia, irritability, hostility, aggression, or other unusual behavior changes, particularly during the start of treatment or dose changes. Zispin 15 may cause sedative effects that can impair judgment, thinking, and motor skills. There is a risk of liver damage, so Zispin 15 should be monitored regularly.

Overdose Effects

No specific overdose effects have been listed.

Therapeutic Class
