Indications
Zistacin is used for treating conditions such as hives, allergic reactions, swelling, runny nose, cough, common cold, motion sickness, and other allergic conditions.
Pharmacology
Zistacin is an antihistamine that works by blocking histamine H1 receptors in the body. This helps to reduce allergy symptoms. Zistacin causes less drowsiness compared to some other antihistamines like promethazine.
Dosage & Administration
Adult: The usual dose is 4 mg every 4-6 hours, with a maximum of 24 mg daily.
Children:
- 6-12 years: 2 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 12 mg daily.
- 2-5 years: 1 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 6 mg daily.
- 1-2 years: 1 mg twice daily.
- Below 1 year: Not recommended.
Interaction
Zistacin may not work well with calcium chloride, kanamycin sulfate, noradrenaline, pentobarbital sodium, and some other medicines.
Contraindications
Zistacin should not be used by people who are allergic to Zistacin, or in newborns and premature babies.
Side Effects
Zistacin is generally well-tolerated, but some people may experience drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, or stomach upset.
Pregnancy & Lactation
This medication should not be used by breastfeeding mothers or during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester.
Precautions & Warnings
Zistacin should be used cautiously by people with glaucoma or prostate problems. Avoid driving or operating machinery while using Zistacin.
Overdose Effects
Overdose may cause drowsiness, breathing problems, heart failure, confusion, insomnia, hallucinations, tremors, and blurred vision. Children may experience symptoms like dry mouth, dilated pupils, hot skin, and stomach upset.
