Indications
Zocil 100 is used to reduce symptoms of intermittent claudication, which is muscle pain (such as pain, cramps, numbness, or fatigue) that occurs during light physical activity. Zocil 100 helps by increasing the distance a person can walk before experiencing discomfort.
Pharmacology
Zocil 100 is a medication made from Cilostazol, which is a quinolinone derivative. Zocil 100 works by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase III (PDE III), which helps to prevent the breakdown of cAMP. This increases cAMP levels in platelets and blood vessels, leading to reduced platelet clumping and improved blood vessel dilation.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: The typical dose is 100 mg twice a day, taken at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after meals. If you’re also taking Fluconazole, Ketoconazole, Itraconazole, Erythromycin, Clarithromycin, Fluvoxamine, Fluoxetine, Nefazodone, Sertraline, or Diltiazem, the dose should be reduced to 50 mg twice a day.
Pediatric patients: The safety and effectiveness of this medicine in children have not been established.
Interaction
Some medications can increase the effects of Cilostazol. These include Omeprazole and Erythromycin, which significantly raise the levels of Cilostazol in the body. Also, patients taking Diltiazem may have higher concentrations of Cilostazol.
Contraindications
Zocil 100 is not recommended for patients with any degree of heart failure. Zocil 100 should also not be used by those who are allergic to Cilostazol or any of its components.
Side Effects
Common side effects include headache, diarrhea, vomiting, leg cramps, and rash. Less common side effects may include loss of appetite and swelling.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There are no adequate studies on the use of Cilostazol during pregnancy. Zocil 100 is known to pass into breast milk in animals, so Zocil 100 is advised to either stop nursing or stop using Cilostazol if you are breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Zocil 100 should be used with caution in patients with heart failure. There is no information on the safety or effectiveness of using Cilostazol together with Clopidogrel.
