Indications
Zoladin is used to lower high eye pressure in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Zoladin combines a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist to help manage this condition.
Pharmacology
Zoladin contains Brinzolamide (a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor) and Brimonidine Tartrate (an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist). Both components work to reduce eye pressure. Brinzolamide helps decrease fluid production in the eye, while Brimonidine Tartrate reduces fluid production and increases fluid drainage from the eye. These actions help lower intraocular pressure, which is important in preventing damage to the optic nerve and vision loss from glaucoma. The effects of both components are strongest about 2 to 3 hours after use.
Dosage & Administration
Instructions: Shake the bottle well before use. Place one drop in the affected eye(s) three times a day. If you are using more than one eye drop medication, wait at least 5 minutes between each one.
Interaction
Rare drug interactions can occur with treatments like high-dose salicylates, CNS depressants, antihypertensives, cardiac glycosides, tricyclic antidepressants, and monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Patients should be aware of potential interactions if using these drugs alongside Zoladin.
Contraindications
Zoladin should not be used by people who are allergic to Brinzolamide, Brimonidine Tartrate, or any of its ingredients. Zoladin is also not suitable for infants and children under 2 years old.

Zoladin is classified as a Category C drug during pregnancy, meaning Zoladin should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks. Zoladin is unknown whether Zoladin passes into breast milk, so breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor to decide whether to continue breastfeeding or use the drug.
Precautions & Warnings
Zoladin contains Brinzolamide, a sulfonamide, which can cause serious reactions, even when applied topically. People with a history of sulfonamide reactions should use Zoladin with caution. Zoladin may also cause issues in people with depression, heart problems, poor circulation, or kidney disease. The drug’s preservative can be absorbed by soft contact lenses, so remove lenses before using the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
Overdose Effects
In the case of an overdose, the person may experience electrolyte imbalances, acid buildup, and nervous system effects. Brinzolamide overdose could cause changes in blood potassium and pH levels. Brimonidine Tartrate overdose in children may cause hypotension. Treatment typically involves supportive care and maintaining an open airway.
Therapeutic Class
Zoladin belongs to the group of drugs used for treating glaucoma and other eye conditions that affect intraocular pressure.
