Indications
Zybex SR is used to treat depression and to help people stop smoking.
Pharmacology
Zybex SR works by increasing certain brain chemicals (dopamine and noradrenaline) that help improve mood and energy levels. Zybex SR does not affect serotonin and does not block monoamine oxidase.
Dosage & Administration
The usual adult dose is 300 mg per day, taken as 150 mg twice daily. Treatment starts with 150 mg once daily, increasing to 300 mg if needed. Doses should be taken at least 8 hours apart.
For higher doses (up to 400 mg/day), treatment should be closely monitored. If no improvement is seen after several weeks, treatment should be stopped. Zybex SR is not recommended for children under 18 years.
Interaction
Zybex SR should not be taken with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping an MAOI. Alcohol should be avoided as Zybex SR may increase seizure risk. Some drugs like antidepressants, antipsychotics, and steroids may also raise seizure risk and should be used cautiously.
Contraindications
Zybex SR should not be used by people with seizure disorders, eating disorders (like bulimia or anorexia), or those allergic to any of its ingredients. Zybex SR should not be combined with other medications that contain the same active ingredient.
Side Effects
Common side effects include restlessness, trouble sleeping, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, constipation, sweating, and skin rash. In rare cases, allergic reactions like difficulty breathing or swelling may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Zybex SR should only be used in pregnancy if clearly needed. Since Zybex SR passes into breast milk, a doctor should be consulted before use during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Zybex SR should be used cautiously in people with a history of seizures, alcohol abuse, head injuries, diabetes, heart disease, or liver/kidney problems. Zybex SR should also be used carefully in those with bipolar disorder or psychosis.
