Indications
Zydus 400 is used to treat acute bacterial sinusitis, worsening chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, uncomplicated and complicated skin infections, complicated abdominal infections, and pelvic inflammatory disease.
Pharmacology
Zydus 400 is a synthetic, broad-spectrum antibacterial drug of the fluoroquinolone class. Zydus 400 works against many types of bacteria, including both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as anaerobic and unusual bacteria. Zydus 400 stops the bacteria from replicating their DNA, which is essential for their survival.
Dosage & Administration
Acute bacterial sinusitis: 400 mg once a day for 7-10 days.
Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: 400 mg once a day for 5-10 days.
Community-acquired pneumonia: 400 mg once a day for 7-14 days.
Uncomplicated skin and skin infections: 400 mg once a day for 7 days.
Complicated skin and skin infections: 400 mg once a day for 7-21 days.
Complicated intra-abdominal infections: 400 mg once a day for 5-14 days.
Pelvic inflammatory disease: 400 mg once a day for 14 days.
Interaction
Its absorption is reduced when taken with antacids, sucralfate, multivitamins, or products containing minerals like iron or zinc. Zydus 400 may also increase the risk of seizures when used with NSAIDs and may cause bleeding when combined with warfarin. These combinations should be avoided.
Contraindications
Zydus 400 should not be used by people who are allergic to Moxifloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics.
Side Effects
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and dizziness.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Zydus 400 is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Zydus 400 is classified as pregnancy category C by the FDA.
Precautions & Warnings
Zydus 400 may increase the risk of tendon injuries or rupture. If you experience pain or swelling in your tendons, stop using Zydus 400 immediately. Zydus 400 should not be used by people with a prolonged QT interval, uncorrected low potassium levels, or those using certain heart medications.
